Arrival in Thailand 2 March 2010

I left for Thailand on 1 March with no great incidences. The most fun was all the attention I got for carrying a collapsible hula hoop. The first security guard wanted a demo, the second searched it with his flashlight and the third warned me not to hula hoop in the terminal for health and safety reasons!

I arrived in Bangkok airport with two hours to kill before my flight to Chiang Mai and so I headed straight for some Thai refreshments of Rice porridge with pork and a Watermelon shake. The broth is fresh and flavoursome and the shake is thirst quenching. I feel so happy to be back in Thailand - and this is just the airport food!

CHIANG MAI
Taxi to my hotel is only two quid and my taxidriver tells me the city is just entering the hot season - and I can feel it. He knows where my guest house and takes me straight there - it is a lot less stressful than my last time in Bangkok or Delhi.

I'm met with smiles at the Green Tulip Guest House by this effervescent Thai woman called Stella, who is very excited to see my hula hoop and demands a demo later. I so wish I'd practiced more already!

I have four hours sleep - my first proper sleep since I woke at 6am the day before - and after that I head out for a wander. On my doorstep is one of the most famous temples and I arrive just in time for prayers with lots of teenage novice monks.
